Simple Valentine’s Day Paper Craft
I love the traditional Valentines conversation hearts, but I don’t love giving my little one candy. So we made our own version of the conversation hearts with paper and watercolors. This is a simple Valentine’s Day paper craft that doubles as a cute gift.
You will need:
- white card stock (or plain white printer paper if you don’t have card stock)
- scissors
- a white crayon
- watercolor paints
- string, yarn, or twine (optional)
Directions:
1. Cut out a bunch of hearts from your white paper. You can free hand the hearts, or draw / trace them lightly with pencil first. The size isn’t important. Larger hearts will be easier for younger children.
2. Using your white crayon, write words or messages on your hearts. After trying a bunch of different crayons, I found that the regular Crayola brand (not washable) showed up the best. Make sure to press down pretty hard with the crayon so that the letters show up after painting over them. I tried to write messages that are found on traditional conversation hearts candies, but I also put my daughter’s name on a few of the hearts, which she loved.
3. Tie the hearts together with the watercolor paints using string, twine, or yarn. You can add a little tag if you would like. This step is entirely optional. But it does make a cute, easy, and inexpensive Valentines gift for a special child in your life.
4. Have your kids use watercolors to paint the hearts and watch the words magically appear on each heart. This is such a simple craft but kids absolutely love it!
5. After the painted hearts have dried, tape them up to the windows, string them up into a garland, or just let your little ones play with them.
